'Twilight''s Beautifully Scarred Tinsel Korey on Filming 'Breaking Dawn'

You know her as Emily, Sam's beautifully scarred fiancee in the 'Twilight' movies, but you probably wouldn't recognize Tinsel Korey walking down the street. While her 'Twilight' co-stars are constantly fawned over by diehard fans, Korey says that she can walk around incognito, since her character is somewhat disguised by the bangs and the scar. Beyond 'Twilight,' Korey is best known as an indie movie queen. She garnered accolades for her role as Blue Girl in Carl Bessai's 'Unnatural & Accidental.' She's poised to wow audiences again in 'Stained,' which is being released on DVD on Aug. 30. This time around, she channels her inner dark side to play a schizophrenic serial killer. Despite all of her serious roles, Korey is actually quite a goofball. She'll have a chance to showcase her silly side in the upcoming flick 'Fishing Naked,' which costars her 'Twilight' buddy Bronson Pelletier. Moviefone caught up with the Canadian-born, L.A.-based actress to get the lowdown on shooting 'Breaking Dawn,' learning stunts from Kevin Sorbo and why she was hand-picked to play a killer. How did you get involved with 'Stained'? My demo reel came across director Karen Lam's table. When I was offered the role, they said you're going to play a schizophrenic serial killer. I'm like, what did she see from my reel? Apparently when I'm smiling it looks like everything is great, and when I'm not I look like I can kill somebody. So I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing! How did you prepare for it? You have to go into a dark place to play a character like that so I was listening to the kind of music that triggered those kinds of emotions. It was really interesting to delve into that part of your psyche. No kidding! What kind of music were you listening to? [Laughs] Actually, it was My Chemical Romance. It's a pretty emo band. 'Breaking Dawn' is coming out soon. What was it like filming that? Bittersweet. Obviously it's great to be back on set and see everybody, but I knew it was the last movie. I remember being at dinner and just looking around and it was like, 'Are we all going to be friends when this is finished?' I compare movies to summer camp. You have these great relationships and you bond, and then when summer ends you're all like, 'We have to keep in touch!' Then life moves on and you go your separate ways. How has the dynamic on set changed between 'New Moon' and 'Breaking Dawn'? Was everyone more relaxed and comfortable with each other? We see each other at 'Twilight' conventions and stuff like that, so we've gotten to interact a lot more than you would on another movie where it finishes and you don't see each other. So that strengthened our bond as a wolf pack unit. You could definitely tell that the movie had changed, as in the budget and the level of movie. When we were filming 'New Moon' the hype was really just starting to pick up and I think that 'Twilight' had just been released internationally, so it wasn't the crazy hoopla that it is right now. Obviously that was intensified by 'Eclipse,' and then 'Breaking Dawn' was another level. That's really interesting. Are there any tangible examples you can think of? For example, were you having caviar at the craft services table or anything crazy like that? [Laughs] Nothing crazy like that, because obviously they want to spend the funds on making the best movie possible. There's more people. The security was really intense, because we've had incidents. Like on 'Eclipse' these fans somehow made it onto set. It was actually kind of funny because they obviously had the plan to make it on to set, but then they didn't know what to do when they got on set. So they were standing there and the crew and all of us are staring at them staring at us and everyone's like so ... what now? [Laughs] So security was definitely bumped up. Are you getting approached by a lot of 'Twilight' fans now? I don't get recognized, especially when I don't have my bangs. I rarely tell people that I'm an actor in general, but when it does come up they say 'Oh, what character do you play?' When I say I'm the girl with the scar they just stare at my face and say, 'You look really different!' I'm like, 'Yeah, because half my face isn't covered with a scar!' I think people are expecting to see Emily and not me, so I actually don't get recognized. I know that you just released your first single, what was that process like? It was amazing! I got to work with Stevie Salas, who has worked with Justin Timberlake and Mick Jagger. He brought this all-star team of musicians like Pink's drummer and Marcus Curiel from P.O.D. and I got to see his magic unfold. What else do you have coming up? I understand you just did something with Kevin Sorbo? Yes, it's a movie called 'Avarice.' It's a sci-fi thriller. It was an independent movie so we didn't have a stunt person, so we're doing the scene and Kevin Sorbo was teaching me stunts, and I was like, cool, Hercules is teaching me stunts right now! What kind of stuff was he teaching you? Were you jumping off buildings or anything like that? I wish. At some point in my career! No, it was just punches and hits and getting thrown around and stuff like that. And then I'm actually doing a movie in September with Bronson Pelletier, who is in 'Twilight,' and it also has Elyse Levesque from 'Stargate Universe.' It's a comedy. It's sort of an 'American Pie' with a supernatural twist. I do all of these really intense movies, and that's awesome, but sometimes I just want to laugh. I like comedy and I think it's one of my strong points as an actor, but for some reason I think people just see me being serious, which I'm not at all. Is there anything else you'd like to mention? For up-and-coming actors or anyone who wants acting advice, I started a Tumblr page and I do everything from Acting 101 to 401, and it goes in steps like how to find an agent, how to do headshots and stuff like that. I always get the question how do I get into acting, so I made a page for it.

5 Performances That May Surprise You This Fall

As summer draws to a close, it’s nice to remember what’s in store for moviegoers as the autumnal equinox approaches: films with characters you care about. Deliver me from the superheroes, sweet season! As part of our extensive fall preview, we’ve picked the five most promising-yet-under-the-radar performances to anticipate in the coming months. Please straighten your tie when approaching the cross-dressing Glenn Close. Seth Rogen in 50/50 Of all the Apatow players, Seth Rogen is the one whose knack for dry punchlines and snark seems to conceal layers of interesting depth and sensitivity. (Take for instance, his character Ken Miller from Freaks and Geeks, who became a powerhouse in the last few episodes.) In 50/50, he plays the buddy of a cancer-stricken Joseph Gordon-Levitt, hopefully he’ll lend the same amount of self-aware cynicism to the character that he brought to Funny People. Alan Alda in Tower Heist Though Alda is lovely in lite romantic comedies like the old Bernard Slade adaptation Same Time, Next Year, he is even greater as a total bastard. Who can deny that his greatest screen moments are in Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors, where he plays the pompous Lester, and The Aviator, where he plays the blowhard Senator Owen Brewster (and received his only Oscar nomination)? We’ll be seeing more of the dickish Alda in the upcoming comedy/actioner Tower Heist, where he’ll play a Bernie Madoff type who screws his Trumpian underlings (Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, among others) out of their life savings. Bring on the condescending sneers! John Goodman in The Artist The grandeur of Michel Hazanavicius’s silent, black-and-white ode to classic Hollywood is dazzling enough — as, apparently, are the lead performances by Gable-lookalike Jean Dujardin and Claudette Colbert-conjurer Brnice Bejo — but it’s John Goodman pounding his fist as Al Zimmer that really brings back a lost world of screen stars. His grit is very Charles Laughton — an Oscar winner with no true contemporary parallel. Unless, of course, the flawless Goodman is up to the task. Armie Hammer in J. Edgar I can’t say that the angle Clint Eastwood is taking on J. Edgar Hoover’s sexual orientation sounds fascinating (or even worth filming), but I’m still intrigued by the part of Hoover’s alleged paramour, Associate FBI director Clyde Tolson. While DiCaprio is sure to give us scrunched-up face acting as Hoover, the part of Tolson seems destined to be more subtly complicated; a little more knowing. Armie Hammer’s turn as the entitled Winkelvi in The Social Network may set him up for the poised nature of Tolson, but I’m thrilled to watch him add sensitivity and ’50s polish to that act. Mia Wasikowska in Albert Nobbs We’ve thought long and hard about the implications of a Best Actress faceoff between Meryl Streep, for her trailer-mesmerizing turn in The Iron Lady, and Glenn Close, who is seriously gunning for her first statue with the gender-bending star role in Albert Nobbs. We haven’t dwelled on Close’s co-star Mia Wasikowska yet, who plays the male-disguised Nobbs’ lady friend Helen. Wasikowska’s been verging on true critical acclaim with fine performances in The Kids are All Right and an astounding arc on In Treatment, and now it appears she may have the august, difficult part to pull that adulation together.

Hill Confirmed For Neighborhood Watch

He's signed for that Ben Stiller comedyThe cast of sci-fi comedy Neighborhood Watch keeps growing through the week. But this latest bit of news should imply that the comedy quotient will get increased by one: Jonah Hill has signed onto the film. Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Rosemarie DeWitt happen to be all aboard the film, which finds Stiller moving in the large city towards the 'burbs expecting that things will require a turn for that quiet and dull. However when he joins with several other bored, married males to create a neighbourhood watch group (on the face to allow them to keep your neighborhood safe, however , to allow them to just goof off), he will get much more than he bargained when ever they uncover an alien invasion plot. While Deadline reviews that Hill has become formally looking for the film, Vulture was the first one to break word of his possible participation a week ago, when there is an opportunity he would be too costly for that twentieth century Fox comedy to pay for. Now, though, it's like several sides have exercised an offer. Hill, who last made an appearance alongside Stiller in Evening in the Museum: Fight from the Smithsonian, will next be observed in Moneyball with Kaira Pitt and David Gordon Green's new comedy The Sitter. Neighborhood Watch, meanwhile, has been overseen by Hotrod director Akiva Schaffer from the script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

'Final Destination,' 'The Help' battle 'Apes' at B.O.

Viola Davis in "The Help" "30 Minutes or Less" Final Destination 5 Warner Bros.' fifth installment in the "Final Destination" franchise leads this weekend's quartet of counterprogrammers looking to keep the domestic B.O. clicking in August. But it'll be a tight race for No. 1 since "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is expected to hold well following its surprising $54.8 million opening. The top two openers should see mid-$20 million debuts, according to B.O. observers -- but there are plenty of ways they could overperform. of DreamWorks' "The Help," distribbed by Disney, likely will be close behind with a bow of about $20 million for five days. Pic collected $5.5 million Wednesday from 2,511 Stateside locations -- a solid midweek start that's expected to build through the weekend based on positive buzz and a rare A+ CinemaScore rating. The remaining two wide releases are Sony's "30 Minutes or Less" and 20th Century Fox's "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie." Expectations for "Less" range from $15 million-$17 million, while "Glee" is more of a wild card (Fox is expecting a bow in the high-single digits, but the studio said "Glee" fans could boost the number higher). Fox's "Apes," which bowed last weekend overseas with $23.8 million, adds a few more major markets, including France, Germany and the U.K. Foreign cume is $30.8 million through Tuesday. Domestically, "Apes" should see a second-week drop similar to that of Fox's earlier summer tentpole, "X-Men: First Class," which fell 56% to $24.1 million in its soph sesh. Though "First Class" earned slightly more than "Apes" opening weekend, the latter Fox pic has been doing better during midweeks and won't have to compete with a major summer tentpole in its second frame ("Super 8" opened on the heels of "First Class"). "Apes" could thus see a better-than-expected hold, perhaps giving it a slight edge over "Final Destination." Most B.O. pundits predict the Warner-New Line 3D horror installment, which cost a reported $45 million, could perform better than the low-$20 millions that pre-weekend tracking suggests, especially given the franchise's core femme fanbase and 3D, and hit the mid-$20 millions. The fourth "Final Destination" bowed at $27.4 million in 2009 , but that was during the weekend of Aug. 28 -- two weeks later than Warner's newest "Destination . " 3D could boost totals for "Destination 5," similar to how the format helped the fourth pic, with 70% in 3D. That film, however, launched during a less crowded 3D frame -- not to mention during a time when popularity for 3D was still high. Still, horror films usually do well with the format even now, and a healthy number of 3D screens -- 2,800, including 217 in Imax -- should boost "Destination's" 3D prospects. Fox secured all debut locations (2,040) for "Glee" in 3D. The studio is betting that the TV show's popularity will translate to the bigscreen, though it's unclear just how broad the fanbase really is (teens are a given, with potential turnout from college-aged auds). Concerning "The Help," Disney is counting on mostly female moviegoers to build buzz. The most optimistic B.O. observers predict the $5.5 million midweek bow will translate into a five-day take as high as $25 million-$30 million. Meanwhile, "30 Minutes or Less" is Sony's third R-rated summer comedy, after "Bad Teacher" and "Friends With Benefits." Universal's raunchy laffer "The Change-Up" bowed last weekend to an underwhelming $13.5 million and cumed $18.4 million through Wednesday. Sony is expecting a better start for "30 Minutes," but that depends on how willingly auds will welcome the summer's seventh R-rated comedy. "30 Minutes," budgeted at a reported $28 million, will earn most of its opening from males 17-30. There's little going on at the specialty B.O., with only two significant indie titles expanding: "Sarah's Key" and "Another Earth." "Sarah's Key," from the Weinstein Co., adds 34 domestic locations for a total of 101. Last weekend, the film expanded solidly, posting a per-screen average of $11,112 from 33 locations; cume is $1.5 million in three weeks. Fox Searchlight's "Another Earth," which broadens to 82 engagements, has totaled $516,332 in just as many weeks. Launching in limited release, Asif Kapadia's docu "Senna," about Brazilian Formula Once racing driver Ayrton Senna, bows at two total locations in New York and L.A. Producers Distribution Agency is distribbing. Contact Andrew Stewart at andrew.stewart@variety.com

Producers Say Cheryl Coles Accent, Stateside Profile Not Motives In X Factor Exit

By Jolie LashBEVERLY Hillsides, Calif. -- Producers at FOX say Cheryl Coles strong, regional British accent, and insufficient profile stateside had no relationship towards the British singer departing The X Factor like a judge and mentor after just two audition models. Everyone else was great together with her, Leader of Alternative Entertainment for FOX, Mike Darnell, told Access Hollywood following the X Factor panel in the Television Experts Association Session in Beverly Hillsides on Friday. I believe that Simon and also the producers just felt it was, right now that they was doing the work, they believed like maybe, she'd become more comfortable doing [the show in] England. Cecile Frot-Coutaz, a professional Producer from the X Factor, stated Cole was well accepted through the American crowds with no participants asked whether she was experienced enough within the stateside entertainment world to evaluate. I believe people understood her because she was about the British show. There is nobody who stated, Well, who're you? Frot-Coutaz told Access. People understood who Cheryl was so when she walked in to the arena, people understood who Cheryl was plus they understood her [accent]. It was much more of a downside when it comes to the franchise. Frot-Coutaz recommended that Simon Cowells own departure in the X Factors United kingdom branch towards the U.S. edition was accountable for producers thinking it may be better to keep Cole about the British show. The British, these were searching for their panel in England, she stated. After Simons departure, they needed to recast the British show. Darnell confirmed that Coles exit is going to be featured included in the X Factor if this starts this September. Well need to, he stated. Would air the shows because they happened, Frot-Coutaz added. Effectively, Cheryl was around for 2 metropolitan areas so when we air individuals two metropolitan areas, spend maintain the moments, Frot-Coutaz added. Theres not really a large explanation. Sometimes you've guest idol judges and theyre there for a few metropolitan areas and also you dont obsess with the idol judges Its concerning the talent its concerning the auditions its concerning the participants.
